You know, a title can tell a story for many gamers, inviting them to take the plunge into an epic journey. Unfortunately, the titles Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair and Earth Defense Force 2: Invaders from Planet Space don't seem all that inviting. For some reason, both titles gives off a type of arcadey-Space Invaders vibe.
So I checked out the official site, and boy, I haven't been more wrong in such a long while, because both titles look incredibly epic and jaw-dropping. Let's touch upon them, shall we?
Earth Defense Force 2: Invaders from Planet Space
XSEED games has recently announced that this Vita-exclusive title will be launching December 8, 2015 in North America, at a price of $29.99. Known as the "definitive" entry by fans, Earth Defense Force 2 is, for the first time, making its way to North America, and to celebrate, the action game will feature a vast array of improvements, including strong, English voiceovers, new content, and four-player co-op and versus modes that are available both online and ad-hoc.
Players playing EDF2 will be slipping into the shoes of the Infantryman, a simple soldier who is armed with your conventional weaponry, the Pale Wing, a special ops soldier who flys about in a jetpack and is equipped with energy weapons, and the Air Raider, a new type of soldier who plays strategically with trip mines, sentry guns, airstrikes, and more. Players can invite up to three friends to tag along with them to defeat the space invaders (see what I did there?) in the midst of real-time combat in various mission areas, many of them inspired by real-world geography. This game is rated T for Teen by the ESRB.
Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair
Hitting the PlayStation 4 for the first time in the West December 8, 2015 for $49.99, The Shadow of New Despair is actually a reimagining of Earth Defense Force 2015, which released only a year ago in North America for the PlayStation 3. And you know what a reimagined PlayStation 4 version means, don't you?
Don't you?
Well, if you don't, the PlayStation 4 version will be featuring some silky-smooth frame rates, spruced-up graphics, and tons of new and rearranged content. This isn't some HD remaster, folks, it's a reimagining, meaning much has been overhauled.
Offering four unique classes--the versatile Ranger, the aerial Wing Diver, the vehicle-summoning Air Raider, or the armored Fencer--The Shadow of New Despair invites you to suit up and lead your troops into city-wide battles against hordes of giant bugs (eww...), robots, and gigantic monsters. Yes, there is a Godzilla-like monster. Two players are able to enjoy local campaign co-op and/or head-to-head versus modes, but if you're wanting to play co-op online, expect to play through a grand total of 98 mission (9 which are exclusive to online play) with up to four players.
Earth Defense Force 4.1: The Shadow of New Despair is rated M for Mature, as the game features Blood, Language, and Violence.
Both games look exciting, but I have to hand it to Earth Defense Force 4.1--it's so action packed and shiny that it's hard to ignore. If you want to know more about either game, you can check out the official site here.
You know what they say: "Don't judge a game by its title."
