So, Grand Turismo Sport is coming out this November, and if you’re a fan of racing titles, you probably think that’s pretty swell news alone: it looks beautiful, it’s from a reputable development team, everything is groovy. But prepare for your heart to race out of your chest, because according to the video I’m going to link below, Grand Turismo Sport is offering more than just a simulation of racing… it’s also giving you an opportunity to join the FIA and become a real-life bonafide race car driver.

If you’re too lazy to sit through four minutes of video, here’s a quick summary: basically, Sony and FIA have partnered up, and now, it’s possible to qualify for an official license with the racing organization, in part, through your performance in Grand Turismo. Which is cool, yes, but the more you actually think about it, you realize it’s more cool in practice than in theory, because while it’s possible to skip some of the qualifying tests, you don’t skip ALL of them, and moreover you still need to spend big money on things like the car and insurance. So, it’s not really going to breed a whole new generation of underdogs so much as it’s going to provide an alternative for people who were already planning on joining anyway.
