Daedalic Entertainment, the masterminds behind well-known titles like Deponia, are back with a soon-to-be Early Access game. Valhalla Hills, set for Early Access debut August 24, is what you'd expect in a traditional building game, but with a blanket of charm draped over it. Boasting procedurally generated mountain landscapes and a roguelike mechanic to draw players further into the experience, this game is bound to keep players entertained for a long while.

The story is as follows:

Odin, almighty ruler of Asgard, is--to put it simply--irate. Odin's son Leko, who is far from the image Odin hoped to mold him into, failed his become-a-god exams on his 18th birthday, as he was unable to succeed in boar-long-throwing, drinking a sea of mead, and Mjölnir-tossing. The exams, of course, were the straw that broke the Sleipnir's back, and as a result, the furious ruler tossed (read: exiled) Leko to Earth and sealed the gates to Asgard, preventing everyone from entering. Everyone. Including the Vikings. So now you have angry vikings twiddling their thumbs and Leko stirring on Earth. What to do? Easy, team up and break down Asgard's gates!

Faced with the harsh wilderness of the brutal mountains, outcast Vikings must survive the territory and reach the top of a portal, which hosts the portal to freedom. Literally. Unfortunately, the Vikings are incredibly independent, desiring to live the life of mead. You, the player, must thus guide them indirectly, using general commands. Be careful though, because this cannot be stressed enough: The Vikings are a taaaaaaaaaaaaad selfish.

The gorgeous gameplay video below definitely shows that the game is coming along well. Admittedly, the animation doesn't look as smooth as it probably should be, but more than likely this issue will be resolved over time. Be sure to check out the game, priced at $19.99, coming August 24 via Steam's Early Access program. Expect the full release to be towards the end of this year (Q4 2015). Unfortunately, only those with Windows will be able to join in on the fun, though Mac OS and Linux users will be able to see the full release of Valhalla Hills on release day.
