EA/Origin is Revealing Player's Real Life Names Online

Even if you previously told them not to.

Some potentially disconcerting news is coming to those with an Origin account. A number of users are noticing that their real-life names are being displayed online, even after they said not to.

The report originates from German news site 4gamers.be. They noticed that the online game platform ran by EA has suddenly started showing the real names of players on their profiles. This was later confirmed in the United States by Reddit user Legendairr and their friends, who all had noticed this feature as being active, despite having disabled it prior.

Internet privacy is important in this modern age. Aggressive and angry folk can use something like a full name to harass people on a private level. Some more extreme cases even led to the death of an innocent person after a false SWAT threat was reported on them. In an ideal world, having one's name hidden wouldn't matter. But for now, EA accidentally revealing it online is still a problem.

If you are worried that this has happened to you, you can visit the EA Origin privacy page to toggle the option.
