EA Not Buying CD Projekt Red, Which is Nice

Just a friendly reminder.

Normally, this wouldn’t really be news. Something not happens every day, there’s hardly a reason to fuss over it: Microsoft isn’t buying the sun, Nintendo hasn’t remotely set every Wii U unit to explode, Konami isn’t collecting stray puppies to test their giant blender… probably. But in this particular case, it needs to be reiterated that no, EA is not buying out CD Projekt Red… or at least, the two are trying to keep it a secret if they are.

See, rumors started churning around the gossip mill when someone claiming to be a CD Projekt Red employee--the developers behind the much-beloved Witcher series and Good Old Gaming--posted this online:

"I'm employee of CD Projekt Red and I have some bad news to share with you. Our management is probably talking with Electronic Arts about potential take over. Electronic Arts representatives are currently visiting our studio and meeting with top management. We are not going to release any game soon, so for sure it's not about any publishing deal, so the only possible reason for EA guys being here is that they want to buy us."

It was sufficiently vague enough that the author wasn’t committing to anything--he certainly never said it was a done deal or even that he was certain. But it was alarming, especially since CD Projekt Red is a famous ‘good guy’ and EA is one of those gaming Boogeyman children think will find them if they’re bad and sell them crappy DLC.

Fortunately, however, CD Projekt Red is denying the claims. When asked over Twitter, Community Lead & Website Coordinator Marcin Momot had this to say:

"Just bumped into Marcin Iwiński - it was new to him. I guess the "informer" has better insight than the CD Projekt Red founder. :)"

So, yeah. The founder would probably be in on it if they were planning on selling out, but then, it’s always possible they’re lying. That said, I think CD Projekt Red has decisively earned our trust at this point, and I’d sooner trust them than this informer.

Still, to reiterated: CD Projekt Red is not being bought by EA. Maybe they were just stopping by for their famous cafeteria food. Seems reasonable to me.
