For the first time in five years, Command and Conquer are getting a new game. It won't be a new console or PC game, however, but a Mobile Game. EA announced Command and Conquer: Rivals at this year's E3 press event.
Command and Conquer began in 1995 for the PC. Over time, it developed into one of the most popular real-time strategy games on the market. The last time we saw the title was in 2013 with Command & Conquer: Tiberium Alliances. Now they've gone in a more casual direction with Command and Conquer: Rivals being available on mobile devices.
The game maintains the game's genre. Players operate on two sides of a map, building resources to spend on troops, through controlling the battlefield, their goal is to overtake their enemy.
This is a far more simplified version of the familiar game series, however. The maps are small, small enough to fit on a mobile screen, and the land is extremely limited. This makes the game more of a focus on choosing your infantry than about positioning.
The announcement was met with mixed reception. Many long-time C&C fans disliked the new title, believing it to be a "money grab" or a watered down version of an otherwise good game. These mirror the same response to when the game had allegedly leaked prior, though there was no evidence of the leak's validity at the time.
Command and Conquer: Rivals is available on Android now, with iOS releasing soon.
