Doom may be eternal, but it is evolving all the same. Doom Eternal developers id Software has announced Battle Mode, a new asymmetrical multiplayer mode for the upcoming first-person shooter.

Announced as part of Bethesda's E3 press event, Battle Mode is a three-person multiplayer game mode where one player, controlling the protagonistic Doom Slayer, fights against two other players, both controlling unleashed major demons. In the best of three rounds, they'll fight to see who the real big-dog of hell is.

This reminds me of games like Evolve and Dead By Daylight, where one powerful entity is against a group. It also reminds me of the Left 4 Dead multiplayer mode, which lets players play as the special zombies while human survivors try to escape.

Battle Mode will be a part of Doom Eternal, which will be available later this year. We don't have to wait too long, now that we know the game's official release date.
