This history of Dragon Ball games is a strange one. They were conspicuously absent in the West in the 90's and early 2000's. That is definitely when the popularity of the show exploded there. However, there weren't any AAA titles even in early development stages. We did get a gameboy game or two, and there was a Dragon Ball GT game released for the PS1 (after the PS2 was already on store shelves). It wasn't until the show was wrapping up its Western release when Atari jumped up to make fighting games for the franchise. Since then, there has always been a Dragon Ball game on the horizon.
It's about time!
I bring this up because something else has been a long time coming. One of the most exciting aspects of the anime series was when the Z fighters had to group together to take on a huge enemy. It didn't happen very often, but when it did, you bet we all gathered around our TVs to see how it would turn out. This concept has been absent in the game releases. You may have needed to go up against multiple enemies, but that was always one at a time, never in a group. All that has changed with Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. The new game will implement an exciting 6v1 Expert Mission that will push you and your friends to limit. 6 players team up to take one one major threat simultaneously in what is promised to be a difficult challenge for even the most skilled players. I, for one, am excited to see how this could turn out.
