The one kink in that plan—beside the Mass Effect thing—is that Bioware is obviously pushing hard on Anthem right now, likely because EA is trying to get it published before “Destiny-like” becomes a point against the series. And while Anthem seems to be the first and only game on Bioware’s radar at this exact moment, executive producer Mark Darrah went to Twitter to assure fans that they hadn’t forgotten Dragon Age.
Halfway through my trip to Barcelona!
I’m here showing Anthem internally to EA. I am EP of BOTH DA and Anthem working with @Bio_Warner as Game Director
Anthem’s up next but there are people hard at work on both franchises and I look forward to sharing more in the future
Of course, if you were hoping for anything more concrete, you’re going to walk away unhappy: obviously the project is under some pretty tight wraps considering we don’t even have a name for it. But there is one thing you can safely deduce: whatever it is, EA is going to make sure that somehow Bioware turns it into a “game as a service”, which means they’re either gonna have to pull some of the most game design to make it both “live” and “story-based”, or they’re gonna drop the story. But either way, there’s no way we’re getting a single-player, story-focused game. Not a chance in the goddamn world, and I honestly won't change my mind on that until the game is in my hands and I've played it myself.
And that kind of sucks.
