Dragon Age: Inquisition is Removed from Pre-order in India

Blame one of the key male characters for this one.

Unfortunately, India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh will not be able to experience one of Electronic Arts’ most anticipated games of this year, Dragon Age: Inquisition. Though there have been some circulation and rumors as to why this game has been pulled from sites and from the pre-order list, the main reason has been confirmed to be related to the theme of homosexuality by including homosexual sex scenes in the game. Apparently, one of the key males of the game has a homosexual orientation and can only be romanced if the main character is male.

The official statement from EA reads, “In order to avoid a breach of local content laws, EA has withdrawn Dragon Age: Inquisition from sale in India and the game is no longer available for pre-order.” The game's distributor site also adds, “Rather than face the wrath of some of India’s more prudish segments of society, EA have pre-emptively decided to make the game unavailable in India, without confirming or commenting on which local laws were being breached.” Unfortunately, there is not a large market for role-playing games in those regions - thus this will not be a major loss, financially speaking, for EA.

Those who have pre-ordered Dragon Age: Inquisition at any time will be refunded the entire amount. It is unfortunate that the removal has taken place, but there are indeed other methods of securing a copy overseas - that is, without resorting to piracy. In the end, is this the right decision for EA?
