It's no secret that Nintendo's mobile ventures have been almost unanimously a success. What we didn't expect, however, was for their youngest IP Dragalia Lost, to become their second most profitable mobile game so far.
According to market data by Sensor Tower, reported by Hayden Taylor, Dragalia Lost has become Nintendo's second highest-grossing mobile game, ranking only below Fire Emblem: Heroes. It has grossed $100 million since it's launch on September 2018, estimating around $33 per installation.
It only recently beat out Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which has grossed $99 million. It also has a significantly larger install base, since they estimate only about $3.30 gross profit per installation.
Of course, all of these combined still don't bat an eyelash against Fire Emblem: Heroes, which has grossed an impressive $500 million since it's launch in early 2017.
This is a surprising degree of success to come from the game. Dragalia Lost is Nintendo's only mobile game not based on an existing IP or franchise. The top-down action RPG has the player use touchscreen controls to fight dragons using magic and weaponry. Released in only 11 countries, it was met with a mixed reception from critics.
Whatever it's doing, it's doing it right, that's for sure.
