Nintendo's next mobile game is finally being brought to light, and it's coming sooner than expected. Details about Dr. Mario World have been revealed in a new webpage and some videos.
The various content explains the details of the game, the characters, how it's played, and even the monetization scheme. It also shows a new personification of the viruses the Dr. Mario franchise is known for.
It also announced an official release date. Dr. Mario World is releasing on Android and iOS on July 10, 2019.
Like the traditional game, Dr. Mario World has the player strategically place colored pill capsules in order to eliminate the viruses on screen. Imagine Tetris, but more puzzle based. This time, the pills fall upward, instead of downward, and they can be placed where you want by using the touchscreen.
It also features a number of new features. New virus colors, new stage, changing items, and mid-puzzle help items can be seen. The game starts out with five worlds, each with an undetermined number of puzzles. Nintendo intends on expanding the number of worlds in the future.
Players can select which doctor they play as, each one with a special skill that can be used in-game. Mario can wipe out an entire row, for example, while Dr. Peach clears one solid column. We also see Dr. Yoshi and Dr. Toad. Dr. Luigi and Dr. Bowser are seen in art on the website, but it's not clear if they are playable or not.
Like your average free to play puzzle game, Dr. Mario World incorporated a couple of microtransactions for monetization. Players use a form of energy to attempt a puzzle called hearts. If they play the game too much in quick succession, they will run out of energy and have to wait for it to recharge. OR, they can spend a premium currency called Diamonds to expedite the process. Diamonds can also be spent on items or add more pills to a stage.
Dr. Mario World will be released for Android and iOS devices on July 10, 2019. For more information, check out the official website.
