Now is your chance to dry Doom as the best it's ever been. The critically acclaimed shooter from 2016 has received an update today for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, taking advantage of the X and Pro forms' powerful hardware.
Originally planned exclusively for the Xbox One X, developer id Software recently announced that the PlayStation would also be receiving the update for the PS4 Pro. Bethesda describes the update in a short news post, referring to it as a "4K resolution patch." They left most details unsaid at the time. Since the game uses dynamic resolution scaling to maintain it's 60 frames per second rate, it's hard to imagine a console could achieve a 4k resolution.
With the most recent Wolfenstein game, the PS4 Pro could only achieve a 1440 resolution at best. Either way, it's hard to complain about an optimization patch. Especially for a game as beautiful as Doom.
The update went like earlier today for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, announced via the Doom Twitter account. The features are intended for the X and Pro forms of the consoles.
