First of all, the features. Vampyr is powered by the Unreal Engine 4, and it promises to offer a unique, immersive experience that is focused on vampire lore. In 20th century London, people suffer and die from the Spanish flu. As Jonathan E. Reid, a high-ranking military surgeon that was transformed into a vampire during WWI, you must choose to save or feed upon afflicted patients; after all, feeding is an essential part of survival for a vampire. All characters in the game are potential victims, with their own identities and backstories. However, you can't feed all nilly-willy--you need to rely on understanding the relationships and habits of these victim so you can feed unnoticed.
To quote the description:
Explore the darkly atmospheric streets of early 20th century London, and interact with a multitude of characters with their own identities and importance. Accept and fulfill the missions they give you, but don't forget: sooner or later, you will have to feed, and make a difficult choice... who will be your prey? Absolutely all characters in the game are potential victims of your vampiric lust. Carefully study the habits of your next victim, his or her relationships with other characters, and set up your strategy to feed, unnoticed: seduce them, change their daily habits, or make sure they end up alone in a dark street...
For every death the story and world changes, so you need to be cautious of who you feed on. At least, you receive the added benefit of new powers if you feed.
There will be dynamic real-time combat, which combines melee with ranged shooting mechanics and supernatural vampiric powers. But what exactly will you face?
If you're expecting vampires and vampire hunters, you're right on the money--you will be battling against those foes. Your health ties in with your energy, so you need to rely on feeding, even during combat, especially if you abuse your abilities. Additionally, there will be a crafting system that enables Jonathan to create tools, weapons, and ammo.
The concept seems very interesting, and I'm curious to see how the game will unfold, but I suppose we have a couple years to ponder over the title.
Vampyr will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017.
