One of the most beloved games from the Super Nintendo is about to make a comeback. Donkey Kong Country is the next game to be added to the Nintendo Switch SNES Library!

Nintendo recently announced the next set of retro games to be added to the SNES and NES Switch Library, a digital selection of games from the aforementioned consoles, ported over to the Nintendo Switch. The heavy hitter of that list was none other than Donkey Kong Country, the popular platformer.

Donkey Kong Country is a tremendously influential game in video game history. It introduced much of the style and lore of the games, introducing villains like King K. Rool. It was the first Donkey Kong game not developed with involvement by Miyamoto, and helped establish Rare as a formidable game studio. It also was one of the first examples of a game rendering 3D graphics as 2D sprites, giving the game the unique visual style practically unheard of at the time.

The other two games listed in the upcoming digital library update are Natsume Championship Wrestling for the SNES and The Immortal for the NES. All three games will be added to the relevant libraries as part of a free update on July 15.

The NES and SNES Library is available to Nintendo Switch Online subscribers, Nintendo's online service that unlocks online multiplayer in games (similar to PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold), available for $20 a year. The virtual library offers faithful emulations of the classic games, with the addition of modern features like online multiplayer, save states, and live rewinding.
