You know, between the Division and Bungie's own Destiny, I feel like we're seeing the emergence of a new kind of game in the industry: something beyond just MMORPG's disguised as single-player experiences, although they are certainly both that. These are games that thrive in mediocrity. They're not excellent, they're not bad... they're just... there. Functional.
I think we need a new word for them. Shoocrity. Averpg. I'll think on it later.
Regardless, despite its flaws, The Division can't help but be a popular time-sink for players across every platform that matters. But for a certain section of that player-base--specifically, Xbox One players--a new bug is coming along that's turning their MMORPlebean experience downright sour: specifically, it's causing entire characters to vanish from people's accounts.
First popping up on Reddit, the list of affected accounts (all of which are Xbox One) has affected 50+ people, and that number is probably larger than what's been reported so far. That said, the developers are already on it, and have been asking for usernames, promising to look into each instance individually. A promising start. But if those deleted characters cannot be restored, that could be dozens--if not hundreds--of hours, wasted by those who were affected. That's nothing to scoff at.
Here's hoping they find a resolution. I'll keep ya'll posted as the story develops.
