However, their more recent attempt at a solo-published game, Dirty Bomb, is soft-closing after four years, with Splash Damage admitting that there simply arent enough people playing the game to make it worth updating:
After regaining publishing rights for DB nearly two years ago, we staffed up a load of developers and tried our best to deliver a Dirty Bomb experience that would be feature-rich with tons of new content, while maintaining its great gameplay feel & balance. Unfortunately, despite all the added time and resources, there were some challenges we couldnt overcome, and we were not able to make DB the success that we hoped it could be. The bottom line is that we cant financially justify continuing to work on the game we love.
Since only about a thousand people still play the game, according to Gamespy, this news wont be terribly harsh for most of you, but for people who might have fond memories of this old game, it could come as a bit of a shock. That said, its not a hard closing, as a few balance patches will be released over the coming weeks, and the official servers will remain open as long as people are using them.
And some good news: since the game is technically unfinished, theyre offering refunds if you bought the All Mercenaries pack.
All that said, though, Id honestly say that in our Paladins/Fortnite/Overwatch world, its sort of amazing Dirty Bomb lasted as long as it did. So good job on that, I guess?
