Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 Remasters Very Likely

We learned earlier this year that Starcraft, Blizzards master class in RTS design, would be getting a remake, allowing would-be fans who won't touch any game unless it pushes their state-of-the-art graphics card to the limit to finally experience one of the games that helped shape modern PC gaming (and eSports) as it's known today. Heck, you can even get a copy of the non-upgraded version for free, and play with your friends using that, if you want: I would broadly consider that a huge win for both fans and Blizzard.

So everything is looking great... unless, of course, you're not really a fan of Blizzard's Sci-Fi work. If you're more interested in their fantasy stuff, then you're probably wondering when the Warcraft 3 or Diablo 2 remakes are coming. Well, there's good news and bad news: the bad news is that Blizzard has officially said nothing about either of these properties getting a re-release. But the good news is that they don't have too - the same way we first learned about the Starcraft remake, we're now learning through job postings that Blizzard is very likely working on HD remakes of both games.

In their position for Senior Software Engineer, Server, they wrote this:

"Compelling stories. Intense multiplayer. Endless replayability. Qualities that made StarCraft, Warcraft III, and Diablo II the titans of their day. Evolving operating systems, hardware, and online services have made them more difficult to be experienced by their loyal followers or reaching a new generation.
We’re restoring them to glory, and we need your engineering talents, your passion, and your ability to get tough jobs done."

So yeah. That's pretty on-the-nose, isn't it? Not much room for ambiguity there. But let's go ahead and double down with their description for their UI/UX Visual Designer position:

Classic Games is looking for a renaissance designer to harmonize that which was, with that which will be. Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo await your machinations. If you have the desire to rise to that challenge, we’d love to hear from you.

That just about settles it, then. I'd feel safe saying you can look forward to those remakes.. As for when we can enjoy these remasters.. no word. But it took Blizzard a few months to officially announce the Starcraft Remaster after it was teased in such a way, so, I wouldn't hold my breath for this year.
