Revealed to IGN, Adi Shankar is developing an animated show based on the Devil May Cry game franchise. Shankar was the executive producer of the Castlevania series released on Netflix not long ago.
According to Shankar, he went out of his way to acquire the rights to the intellectual property so that Hollywood doesn't "f*** this up." While it's not clear if the statement was directed toward a movie/tv adaption in particular, or simply toward the trend of poorly-received adaptions (I'm looking at you, Doom 2006). He also stated that the show will join Castlevania in what was now calling the bootleg multiverse.
The Bootleg Multiverse is in reference to Shankar's past works, which often include short, often graphically violent adaptions of properties like Venom, Punisher, and Power Rangers. He openly recognizes the potential implications of having both Castlevania and Devil May Cry in the same universe, inviting speculation from fans.
Let the speculation begin. You can read into that all you want.
If you're more for playing the games than watching animated shows based on them, you'll be able to play Devil May Cry 5 sometime next year for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
