Some publishers advertise their new games with trailers and special editions. Data Realms, the self-published studio, has a more generous approach. They give their fans free weekends and discounts.

Data Realms' most recent Early Access title, Planetoid Pioneers, will be formally launching on February 8. To celebrate this, the developers held a free weekend event for their previous game, Cortex Command. The icing on the cake is that owners of Cortex Command will get 25% off when they purchase Planetoid Pioneers.

A prequel to Cortex Command, the new title takes the player into a strange world full of bizarre creatures. The 2D action game lets you get together with friends to brave this harsh environment

To celebrate the game's upcoming launch, they listed Cortex Command as a free game for the weekend. This meant that anyone who snagged the game would have it for good. Whether you got the game when it was free, or purchased it in the past, anyone who owns Cortex Command when Planetoid Pioneers launches will receive a discount for 25% off.

Even without promotions or codes, the base game option is $9.99. You can check it out for yourself at the game's Steam page.
