Destiny 2 Gets Second "Trailer"

As I posted yesterday, we’d learn more about Destiny 2 today. Today is here, and indeed, we’ve gotten our first “real” look at Destiny 2, (even though the trailer has a disturbing lack of gameplay), unreasonable hype from the folks over at Bungie, and a release date.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Check out the gameplay-free trailer:

But that’s not all: I promised unreasonable hype, and boy, are they going to deliver. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg says:

"Destiny was the biggest launch of a new console video game franchise ever. Along with our incredibly talented partners at Bungie, we are focusing on making Destiny 2 even better, with state of the art first person action, an awesome new story, great characters, and thoughtful innovations that make the game more accessible to all different kinds of players. We're also bringing Destiny 2 to the PC platform for the first time. Destiny 2 will make an already great game franchise better than ever."

Oh yeah, did I forget to mention that? It’s coming to PC now. Rejoice, master race.

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons added:

"The past three years have been incredibly inspiring and rewarding for Bungie. To know that millions of players around the world have forged lasting Destiny memories and even made it their hobby is truly humbling and we can't wait to continue the journey. We are looking forward to sharing a fresh, inviting story, and with the upcoming Destiny 2 Beta slated for this summer, we are eager to get feedback from millions of players around the world who will get a glimpse of the new adventures that will unfold for all of us. Together, with our partners at Activision, we are thrilled to get Destiny 2 in the hands of players in September."

Which tells you everything else you’ll need to know for now. The game will launch properly on September 8th, but there will be a summer beta for anyone who decides to pre-order. Also, while the trailer here has a disappointing lack of gameplay, gameplay footage was promised during a livestream on May 18th.

But still, a 2017 release date is nothing to scoff at. It seems this really will be quite the stunning year for games…
