Besides, I don’t play Destiny, but frankly what little of the character I saw I found him more annoying than charming.
Regardless, talking about the upcoming expansion with Game Informer, Destiny 2 developers shared their thoughts about what his death will mean for the story. Eric Osborne, Community Head, had this to say:
"It feels like it's just done for shock value at the start, but it's not. It makes the world feel rich. You start to see the way characters are reacting to that death and the vacuum that leaves in the universe."
And Forsaken game director Steven Cotton says, a bit more succinctly:
"It's got high stakes, but the stakes are not about saving the universe. They're personal stakes."
You know what, this reminds me a lot of Saints Row. For as much as I loved the Saints Row games - and I really loved them - for some reason they assumed I cared a lot more about Johnny Gat than I actually did. It was weird for me that the game would spend so long tongue-worshiping him when I found him the most boring character, to be honest.
Now, again, I don’t actually play Destiny 2, so maybe Clyde-6 is the single-best character in all of gaming. But standing from the outside, I just get the same Gat vibe: where Bungie likes this character way more than everyone else.
But then, what do I know?
