Destiny 2 Adds New, Slightly More Predictable Loot Chest

Just what we always wanted.

Destiny and Destiny 2 seem to be polar opposites of one another. The first Destiny was a flawed, average game that slowly got better as Bungie rolled out new updates and improvements. The second Destiny started out fun and awesome until Bungie started rolling out new updates and “improvements” that fans really disliked, largely because Bungie had started trying to milk players of their cash with crappy loot boxes, bad event rewards, and a number of cosmetic consumables that were once permanent items.

Well, Season 3 is on its way, and Bungie has seemed to enter something like damage control mode, and in an effort to give players more stable and predictable rewards, they just announced a new kind of loot chest in the game: the Prismatic Matrix.

Unlike the game’s normal loot boxes, the Prismatic Matrix has ten known items featured in it, which will rotate every week with new emotes, ghosts, ships, and other cosmetics the game has to offer. Activating the matrix will guarantee you one of those ten items, but to do so you’ll either have to hand over a Prismatic Facet, which can be earned once per week after their first level-up, or you’ll have to dish out 200 silver, which is their premium currency in the game. The catch is that you can earn every item in the matrix normally, and if you unlock one item in the matrix through dust or the normal loot chests, it’s guaranteed NOT to drop from the matrix when it’s activated: which means you’re always going to get something new.

That is technically better than a normal loot box, and it’s also technically a new, free way for people to get loot, which is objectively good... I guess. But it’s just a Band-Aid over a crappy system, and I’m pretty sure everyone knows it.

Regardless, we have that to look forward to.
