What is a more exciting way to start off the weekend than by driving a bus along the Arizona desert for 8 hours? How about doing that to raise money for charity? That's right, folks. The 10th Desert Bus for Hope is back at it again as they pilot their way from Tuscon to Las Vegas with a Sega CD controller in hand.
Desert Bus for Hope is a charity event where a team of individuals plays through a minigame on Penn & Tellers Smoke & Mirrors. The task is to drive a bus from Tuscon to Las Vegas, where there is nothing interesting to see, no turns to take, but constant attention needed to stay on the road. The event is live streamed while encouraging viewers to donate towards the charity. They are raising money for Child's Play. That is an organization that provides toy and games to children's hospitals for the patients and their families.
What's the gimmick? The more money donated to the cause, the longer they have to play Desert Bus. At the time of writing this, they have been driving for about 23 hours, with a total obligated drive time of 129 hours. This number will undoubtedly climb as the event progresses.
You can watch the charity event for yourself via their Twitch page. So far they have already raised over $90,000.
