Demon's Souls Returns in PS5 Remake

As you’ve probably realized, Sony’s big PS5 announcement has been the talk of the town, as of late.

There are lots of reasons people are excited about it, of course. The new games look fantastic, and the hardware itself looks… okay? I guess? But for my money, the best news to come out of the PS5 reveal wasn’t any of the new games or the console's weird reverse-Oreo design, but rather, an unappreciated older game getting a second shot at the spotlight it so richly deserved.

That’s right, kids: Demon’s Souls, the PS3 classic that kicked off the Souls craze (kind of), is making its grand return on the PS5.

From JAPAN Studio and Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon’s Souls™. Entirely rebuilt from the ground up and masterfully enhanced, this remake invites you to experience the unsettling story and ruthless combat of Demon’s Souls in unparalleled visual quality and incredible performance. Coming to PlayStation 5

As you’ll note from the video’s description, Dark Souls developer From Software isn't developing the title – rather, they’ve tasked Bluepoint games with taking the PS3 game to the next generation of consoles. They’re building it from the ground up, but they’ve got plenty of good experience doing that, as they’re also the people responsible for porting Shadow of the Colossus from the PS2 to the PS4. So we can trust them to do a pretty good job, I think.

Right now, there’s no news on whether the game will come with new features or content, save one: we’ll be able to switch between two different graphics modes – one that focuses on graphical fidelity, and one that focuses on frames per second.

Seems weird it couldn’t do both, what with how powerful the PS5 is supposed to be, but I guess the option itself isn’t bad.
