Shenmue 3 was announced back in 2015, and it's still under development, but now, with the help of Deep Silver as publisher. Ys Net and Deep Silver have partnered up to bring the highly anticipated sequel to 2001's Shenmue 2 to both PC and PlayStation 4.
Shenmue 3 was made possible because of Kickstarter, and after a rather reasonable goal of 2,000,000, the funding surpassed 6,000,000 by the end. The last footage we've seen of it was back at E3 2017, and the only real update was recently given by Yu Suzuki, director of Shenmue 3.
I am very pleased to secure this global partnership with Deep Silver, which is comprised of incredible men and women who have a deep passion for bringing Japanese titles to the rest of the world, said Yu Suzuki, director of Shenmue 3. Throughout this process, Deep Silver has expressed a deep passion for Japanese games, the Shenmue franchise and its fansthis gives me further confidence in Shenmue III and that we have found the best partner possible.
Shenmue is definitely a love it or hate it type of franchise, but according to its Kickstarter funding, there is an overwhelming amount of people who are looking forward to Shenmue 3. You would think with that much funding that they could actually hire some good voice actors. Seriously, check out the trailer, it's pretty brutal for 2015.
