Kojima recently spoke with Japanese website J-Wave in an interview about Death Stranding. In it, he reveals that the game is slightly behind in production.
It's common for studios to fall behind their planned release date, and Death Stranding is very slightly behind our initial plan, but not behind by much.
Kojima expands on the complicated process of game production, including the difficulties of producing something brand new instead of another iteration of the series. He explains that the game's true, original vision is "only inside me," and explaining it can be a risk.
I can imagine it's twice as difficult explaining your game if you're the same man responsible for Metal Gear Solid's storyline. We've seen a few trailers for Death Stranding already, and the main story still remains unclear.
Currently, Death Stranding has no official release date. There is speculation that the game could release within 2019, but nothing has been confirmed. With news like this, it might be a bit longer still. Stay tuned as more becomes available to us.
