The EDM artist has an established history streaming on Twitch. He broadcasts himself live either playing games or producing music. This time, he showed off early-in-development footage of a video game he is developing. He later remarked on Twitter that it's by no means anything near complete.
Mad early alpha alpha testing ... but making great progress with the team. For now, consider it a pet project ... give us a year at least.
The footage shows Zimmerman roaming around a blocky arena environment, wielding a high-tech looking sniper rifle that, according to him, won't have hitscan. This refers to the idea that when shooting a gun in a video game, the game scans for a straight line between objects, and instantly deals damage if it's not blocked. This is considered an easier to code and render solution to shooting a bullet, but it doesn't account for actions such as travel time and drop-off.
He clarified, however, that all other weapons will have a hitscan. This makes more sense for short-range weapons, as drop off and travel time is significantly less relevant to the combat situation. This can be compared to Fortnite, which employ the same development technique.
When asked about the intended genre of the game, Zimmerman responded to say that it's not anything right now. It's a prototype. Lots to do.
It'll be a good while before we see anything more of this, I think.
