The infamous creator of DayZ, Dean Hall, is back on the game developing scene after abandoning a previous space title that he revealed at Microsoft's E3 press conference in 2015. Hall is pretty notorious for abandoning games it seems, and the community has definitely learned from the absolute disaster that was DayZ. Early access games very frequently get left for dead, never to see the light of day, and Dean Hall is part of this problem. Well, Hall is making a return with his recent announcement of his next game, coincidently also a space themed game called Stationeers.
The gaming community as a whole is very skeptical about this game, as they should be given Hall's poor track record. Stationeers is a space game (go figure) where players work together to manage a space station. The art style looks like something between Astroneers and Minecraft and while I'm very skeptical about it, the concept seems relatively interesting, and much less ambitious than DayZ was at the time. Thank god it's not another survival game. To avoid another No Man's Sky disaster, Hall assured everyone that this is not a AAA project in any way shape of form (not like it even resembles a AAA title anyway). Hall explains that this is a very niche game in a genre that he's been wanting to work in for over a decade.
It's definitely not an ambitious looking project, and it's actually playable right now Eurogamer's REZ show in the UK. Maybe Stationeers will be Dean Hall's redemption story, but I don't think the community is buzzing with excitement for this title. Fool us once, shame on us. The gaming community doesn't like to be fooled, so Hall might not even get a second chance. He definitely won't fool me twice, that's for sure. Anyway, if you're interested in Stationeers, it will be coming to Steam early access "soon".
