Terrorists win...?

So… it was two weeks ago, if you recall, that Daybreak Games CEO John Smedley decided to tempt fate (and poke a hornet's nest) by threatening to sue a Finnish hacker and his family after he got enraged over the ‘light’ sentence he received in court. Retribution was swift and brutal, with Planetside 2 and H1Z1 suffering countless DDoS attacks at the hands of what remains of the Lizard Squad.
Well. It seems even the most passionate men can be beaten. His crusade against hackers ends, and by the looks of things, the hackers won: just today, it was confirmed John Smedley is stepping down as president of the company.

According to a representative for the company:

“I can confirm that John Smedley will be taking some time off from the company for the near-term and transitioning to a different role to be determined. Upon finalization of his plans, further communication will be provided.”

So he’s not really ‘leaving’ the company, he’s just surrendering his leadership, taking a little vacation, and joining somewhere lower on the totem pole. As for why he’s demoting himself, well… no one can really say. Perhaps it really was in the wake of the attacks of the hackers, or maybe it’s completely unrelated. Maybe he just really wants to be a janitor? We can only speculate, although… the timing of it certainly seems to imply the Lizard Squad was involved somehow.

I’ll keep ya posted if something comes up.
