At about 7:51 this morning, Red Hook Studios posted a tweet that has their fans excited. A 28-second video with the caption "Wait for it... wait for it..." shows a camera recording a screen of gameplay of their well-known title Darkest Dungeon. After about 20 seconds, the camera slowly pans back to reveal that the game is running on a Nintendo Switch. Exciting news, delivered in possibly the most informal way I've ever seen. This is, in fact, a big deal though, for two reasons.
First, this shows that Nintendo's statements on how easy and efficient it will be for 3rd party games to be made for the Switch have at least some merit. Darkest Dungeon is also available on iPad however, so it's by no means a resource intensive game. Still, this is a step forward in Nintendo bringing in a game library more akin to rival consoles, albeit slowly.
Second being that Darkest Dungeon is by no means a happy game. Full of bloody death and wretched monsters to the occasional sexual themes and partial nudity, this title isn't something I would let my child play out of fear of causing nightmares and a deep-seated phobia of pigmen. That doesn't mean this is bad though. I am happy to see that Nintendo is being more open to games with grittier and more serious content that appeals to the more mature consumer.
All in all, this is great news, and I am happy for Red Hook Studios. There's no word on a price or release date yet, but you can check out the tweet for yourself here.
