There was a Nintendo Direct yesterday, which meant, as always, we were bombarded with news and announcements from the Big N, ranging from super-exciting announcements about Smash Brothers for the Switch (which is due to come out later this year does that mean it's a new game, or a port?) to less-exciting news about demos that are now available on their online store. But among all that news, there was one that stood proud and tall above the rest: what was, inarguably, the greatest piece of news to ever come from a Nintendo direct. Or, perhaps, the entire gaming industry.
Dark Souls is getting its own amiibo. And not just any amibo - an amibo of everyone's favorite sun-praising bro, Solaire himself!
The amiibo, which will launch at the same time as the Switch port of Dark Souls remastered, looks fantastic. And, like all amiibos, it will also allow the player to affect the game when tapped against the screen. However, unlike some amiibo, which offer game-changing (or game-breaking) benefits, Solaire offers something humble yet indisputably authentic to the Dark Souls experience: the ability to use the PRAISE THE SUN gesture any time you want. Which means as early as level 1, before you even meet Soliare, you can praise the sun as you get pummeled by the games weakest enemies and predatory red phantoms. What a time to be alive!
While I had always hoped for a Solaire amiibo, I never believed we'd actually get one, largely because I wasn't sure how keen Nintendo would be to celebrate a third-party, M-rated character like Solaire with such a figurine, but also because it would be against the spirit of the game if such a thing offered players tangible benefits. But the ability to spam an emote? The only better choice would be if it dropped a free pendant every time you gave it a tap.
Dark Souls Remastered will come out May 25.
