Dark Souls 3 is out, of course, and every waking moment I'm spent wracking my brain asking one of two questions: "Why aren't I playing Dark Souls 3 right now", or "How can I maximize the time I'm currently spending on Dark Souls 3"? It's good. It's damn good. And it's so damn good, that in a recent press statement, Namco Bandai happily announced that this is their fastest-selling game EVER, in the entire history of the company. And to celebrate, they released this new trailer where they wave review scores in our face.
It's worth noting that Namco Bandai is also the company behind Pac-Man, so, let that sink in: this game has sold faster than frickin' Pac-Man.
Now, of course... this is both good and bad news. It's good because more people playing Dark Souls 3 makes me happy. It's bad, on the other hand, because it makes it increasingly unlikely that Namco Bandai will be willing to stop the series here and not make a Dark Souls 4. In this industry, money trumps artistic integrity 9 out of 10 times, and if Namco Bandai ever has a bad year, they'll always know they'll have a guaranteed money-maker in their back pocket...
...And let's not kid ourselves, we'd buy the crap out of Dark Souls 4.
Maybe we can compromise and just get DLC forever? I'd do that.
