Namco Bandai just doesn’t know what to do with Dark Souls 2, huh? First they tell us the game is complete as is, and no additional DLC would be released. Then through the next few months a grand total of 3 (extremely high quality) DLC is released—and with the months ticking away till Bloodborne comes out, people just assumed that was it… NOW we were done with Dark Souls 2.
As it turns out, the answer to that is one big ol’ nope. See, while Bloodborne is a PS4 exclusive (because it’s technically more of a follow up to Demon’s Souls than Dark Souls) Dark Souls 2 isn’t, and thus the two are more like competitors than they are like allies. Thus, on April 7th, 2015, Namco Bandai announced it would release Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin—a “ultimate edition” of Dark Souls 2 for Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Yep: Dark Souls 2 is coming to the next generation.
Now here’s the interesting bit...
Not only will the updated Dark Souls 2 have improve graphics, it will have whole new features—an improved story, more NPC’s, more story events, and updated areas with new enemies. Check out the trailer below.
A dragon in Heide’s Tower of Flame? Interesting…
While this is all cool news, the coolest is that in addition to the new editions of the game, anyone with the original Dark Souls 2 will get all the new content for free in an upcoming patch—so you don’t have to buy the game again in order to get all the new features.
But there is a catch: April 7th is around a month after the release of Bloodborne. So if you’re still hooked on that game, it might be hard to pull yourself away from it to pop back in Dark Souls 2… but then, challenge has always been what made the Souls games so special…
