According to a trademark registered with Justia Trademarks on July 1, 2021. It showed a logo for something called The Dark Pictures, The Devil in Me. It also bares the same graphic style of the rest of the series, with the same font and the skull graphic on the left side. The filing also comes with a description.
The mark consists of the word THE on top of the words DARK PICTURES, stacked on top of the words THE DEVIL IN ME. The letter V in the word DEVIL is stylized, with a magnifying glass attached to the bottom of the letter V. On the left of the mark, there is a left-facing skull with a compass inside the skull.
So what can we parse from all this?
The only noteworthy components for this are the subtitle The Devil in Me and the stylized V with a magnifying glass. The idea of demonic possession fits along the overall theme of the Dark Pictures Anthology, which will be a collection of short horror games. The first two games were based on curses and witches, and the upcoming third game, House of Ashes, appears to be an unearthed monster style game. So a demon and possession idea would be an otherwise fresh take, fitting for a future game.
So what about the magnifying glass? This could mean just about anything, to be honest. Our first guess is a detective or private eye type situation.
We suspected that it would be about disease, with the germs being the devil, so to speak, it being in me is the infection. But that would make more sense with a microscope instead of a magnifying glass. Unless, perhaps, it's about parasitic infection, where small creatures are infecting people while still being large enough to be seen by magnifying glass.
We dont expect to learn the real answer for a while. The third game in the anthology, House of Ashes, was only recently revealed and won't release until October 22 of this year. The end credits of the game will likely show a teaser for this trademarked game, acting as the first look at whats next to come.
So stay tuned, but not TOO tuned. Itll be a bit before we learn more.
