As it turns out, CD Projekt Red has light and visual patterns that can trigger a seizure in people with epilepsy, specifically in the "braindance" sequences where you live out other people's memories. Worse still, the game didn't seem aware of the risk, as there was no warning before these moments struck: a pretty serious failing for a triple-A game.
"During my time with Cyberpunk 2077, I suffered one major seizure and felt several moments where I was close to another one. I kept going because I made that decision to, and I feel like that decision helped me sort of slap together a small little guide for players wanting to take part in this game for fear of missing out."
Of course, one journalist's helpful guide is no substitute for action on CD Projekt Red's part, and the studio has released an apology and a sort of plan over Twitter:
Thank you for bringing this up. We’re working on adding a separate warning in the game, aside from the one that exists in the EULA (https://cyberpunk.net/en/user-agreement/). Regarding a more permanent solution, Dev team is currently exploring that and will be implementing it as soon as possible.
An oversight of this nature is an incredible failure on CD Projekt Red's part, but it's also incredibly fortunate that this was "caught" before the game's actual release, when hundreds if not thousands of people could have stumbled into these scenes unaware.
Not a great start for the presumed GOTY.
