Curse Voice: The VoIP to Top All VoIPs?

Judging by its features, it's at least going to be a huge hit among LAN parties.

Curse Voice is a rapidly growing VoIP service, yet is still unheard of by many. In short, it is a success story that seeks to create and innovate by building a tight knit, thriving community. Voice chat is an important part of a multi-player online experience, for various reasons: collaboration, friendship, or just some plain ol' fun. Though programs such as Mumble are providing the bare minimum of integration, Curse Inc. aims to go farther. With data collected, Curse Inc. understands the desires of gamers and the advantages of exceptional service.

Within this data collection, known as White Paper, are some very interesting facts about the VoIP market, such as the following:
  • Current market problems highlight that most VoIP platforms run off open-source freeware in separate windows, have clunky plain text-based interfaces, and often require a complicated IP address and password. Additionally, these services are susceptible to DDoS attacks and require individual server subscriptions for different platforms, so gamers may need to use more than one platform at a price.
  • Over 550 VoIP platforms, oddly, have hardly changed since their births in early 2000s.
Okay, I can definitely see both of those points, as I have experienced a variety of VoIP platforms over the years. But here are also some curiosity-piquing facts about Curse Voice:
  • The VoIP platform offers easy voice session sharing via link or auto-matching (in integrated games)
  • Curse offers friend synchronization across different games and services, such as Steam, Battle.net, and Skype.
  • It also offers seamless in-game voice overlay that gives users "complete control over their voice sessions."
  • There are 1.3 Million Active Curse Users Worldwide, with the average user spending 108 minutes per day on average.
  • There are 1.6 Million Daily Game Sessions on Curse Voice, with the average user starting 15.2 sessions.
  • Finally, there are 22.7 Million Friendships on Curse Voice, averaging out to 8.2 friends per user, which has doubled from January to March of 2015.
The overlay and UI looks amazing for a VoIP, truth be told. Nevertheless, Curse Voice has seen a lot of progress despite only being in beta. Curse, Inc. has even worked closely with Smite, Robocraft, and League of Legends to understand what the community wants from a VoIP service. As a result, partners of Curse, Inc. have benefited in the following ways:
  • Targeted campaigns working with publishers saw a 25% increase in Smite sessions between friends and strangers monthly.
  • After adopting Curse Voice integration, Robocraft's active player roster increased by 258%.
According to Curse Vice President of Marketing, Donovan Duncan:

"There's no one correct answer in what it takes to help build and grow a community, but in working hand-in-hand with the industry's biggest developers Curse Voice has been proven to narrow the gap in communication."

This seems to be a growing platform that may just be perfect for LAN parties. Who knows? Maybe Curse, Inc. will be officially partnered with QuakeCon next year. Of course, you can check out the statistics of Curse Inc.'s progress here, but if you want to give the VoIP a whirl, you can refer to the official site.

Oh right, did we mention the basic service is free and cross-platform? Yes, there is a premium plan, of which you can find on this here site, but it's honestly a lot cheaper than expected ($2.45/mo).
