With all of the excitement happening toward the Dark Souls remaster coming next month, fans have been a bit confused as to what this will mean for the PC version of the game. Conflicting information had been given regarding those who already own Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition for PC.
Earlier today, publisher Bandai Namco clarified exactly what game owners can expect. Those who already own the original Dark Souls on Steam will be given a 50 percent discount toward the Remastered edition.
Dark Souls: Remastered will cost $39.99 at launch. Since Dark Souls "classic" costs $19.99 currently, it would cost you the same exact price to purchase the original version now and use the discount compared to simply purchasing a new copy of the remaster. So no gaming the system there. Loyal players who already own the game will be able to purchase the remaster for only $19.99.
Since Dark Souls isn't available on current consoles, there is no discount to give for console versions of the remaster on the related platforms.
Dark Souls: Remastered will be released on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One on May 25. The discount coupon can assumably be found at or before this date. The Nintendo Switch version was recently delayed to sometime this summer.
