Competitive video games have had a hard time being taken seriously. "Why would someone actually want to watch people play video games?" Even as Twitch and the Let's Play communities explode in popularity. Even as competitive players win hundreds of thousands of dollars. However, we have a new example to bring up. The ESL One tournament in Cologne, Germany has completely sold out. That means 14,000 spectators will watch the world's best players of Counter Strike: Global Offensive fight over a $1,000,000 USD pool.

Gotta admit, I'm pretty jelly.

If you weren't able to grab a seat, don't worry. Twitch and other venues will be broadcasting it live. It is already expected to break the existing records for viewership. This is all exciting news. With each year, video game competitions grab a few more eyes. It is getting harder and harder for others to discount its legitimacy. In other words, it's an exciting time for us all.
