Oh boy! Cryptocurrency is peeking its creepy little head into the gaming industry. I guess we all knew it would happen eventually, but we never knew when it would happen.
Partnering with a small startup, Crytek has created Crycash. Starting with a test group in Turkey, Crytek will be paying people in Crycash to play their free-to-play game called Warface. Yes, I said Warface, not Warframe, the very popular free-to-play game. Why the company thought this was the best choice of game title... the world may never know. It is a way around paying regular test groups, as the cryptocurrency is worth much less to the native currency and can only be used within their games. This seems mildly absurd to me, but co-founder Faruk Yerli states that proper execution of this currency could spread to other games and even eSports.
The only redeeming quality of Crycash is that it can, in fact, be used to trade with other cryptos such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. That being said, I could only imagine Crycash will be worth a fraction of a penny in its early ages. Without a singular gaming monopoly controlling it and the content you can purchase with it, you probably won't see much growth in its price.
