We hoped when the news came that Crytek had finally started paying its employees, it would be the end of our long-running series looking at the crisis at Crytek. However, there’s still much to discuss, because they ain’t out of the deep end yet.
If you recall, Crytek revealed that it was able to pay it’s employee’s wages because of a unspecified injection of cash from an outside source. Well, it’s not saying one way or the other if this is the source of their sudden influx of cash, but either way you should know: Crytek has officially sold Homefront: The Revolution to Dead Island developer Deep Silver. While the two of them had been working together on the project, this recent purchase means Deep Silver will own 100% of the game, and therefore reap 100% of its revenues.
The exact amount of money the game’s been purchased for was left out of the report, but it’s safe to say however much it was, it was enough for Crytek to say with some confidence that it’s not out of the development gig yet. There’s been no information leaks from people within the company, so for now all we have is their word.
Still, between Homefront: The Revolution and the sequel to Ryze, Crytek is bleeding out it’s IP’s. It’s still got a few under its belt (Hunters: Heroes of the Gilded Age and Arena of Fate) but it’s hardly in the position it was just a few years ago. Here’s hoping it’s enough to keep them going.
