Is 2K Games putting pressure on critics?

Popular gaming site The Sixth Axis had given the new NBA 2k18 game a rather low rating of 3/10, citing their reasoning as to how difficult it was to accumulate the in-game currency without buying them through microtransactions. Not much later on, the low score was removed without warning. People in the community believe that this is due to the game publisher 2K Games putting pressure on The Sixth Axis about their score.

Why jump to that conclusion though? When the idea was proposed in a NEOGAF forum about the game's microtransactions, a comment was left by the staff member of The Sixth Axis that wrote the review.

After review went live I've had no direct contact with 2K, instead their PR is chatting with my editor. All I know is that 2K are to issue a statement of some sort regarding issues raised in the review.

So according to them, 2K Games IS talking to them about their score. This may have prompted the removal, but if you look now you'd see that the original 3/10 score is back up. Why is that?

About an hour before this post, The Sixth Axis posted a statement about this entire situation. They state that they were under no pressure by 2K Games to remove the score. Instead of that, they expected a statement from 2K Games themselves regarding the digital currency issue, and that their statement may have an impact on their score. 2K Games failed to give a statement, so The Sixth Axis decided to restore the original score.

A fair bit of controversy, that led to literally no change.
