Oh boy. The next NHL game from EA is getting a trailer and Connor McDavid has been named the cover athlete for the game. He had an incredible season and has been doing extremely well for the Edmonton Oilers, so good on him for the achievement. As far as the game goes, meh. I'll get into more detail though, don't worry.
So, I'm a huge fan of the NHL series. Well, I used to be. I've been watching hockey since I was born and it's easily my favorite sport. Since I couldn't play when I was growing up because it's so freakin' expensive, I decided to play the games on my Xbox instead. As a former Top-100 player in the game, I have a pretty good grasp on the positives and negatives.
For starters, this is the only real NHL game on the market. So I guess that would be put down in the positive category. At the same time, it's also a negative because EA has no reason to improve. NHL is by far there least popular title, so why waste time on a game that makes little money and has no competition? They just keep throwing out the same recycled garbage every year.
They always say, "oh we fixed this so don't worry about it." They fail to mention that while fixing the ability to stick lift properly, they also messed up goaltending. It seems like every year, one thing is fixed and another thing breaks. It's almost like they set themselves up so that next year they can say, "Yep. We fixed that again."
I don't get much from the trailer, but everything looks exactly like NHL 17. I don't know. We'll see what happens I guess, but I wouldn't put this on your "watch list".
