Mighty No. 9 and its whacky creator, Keiji Inafune, is at it again. Turns out, the game is getting a third delay, and has now been pushed back, yet again. Keiji cites bugs within the code, specifically regarding matchmaking and the fact that the game is being released on multiple platforms, and the fact that Unreal Engine 3 is no longer being updated, as the main force behind the delay. But regardless of the reason, there’s going to be a few more months now before we get our hands on the latest evolution of the world-famous blue bomber.

“For this 3rd delay of the game, we have no excuses for disappointing our fans and especially our backers once more. We want to take this chance to express our sincerest apologies to everyone who has looked forward to the release... We are all working hard to make sure that we can finish and release the game to all of our fans as quickly as possible, and ask once more for your support of this project that we have created together over these last few years.”

While Keiji was uncomfortable listing a specific date for the new launch, he did say we could realistically expect it to happen sometime in Spring 2016.

Keep in mind, this is the same game that got two kickstarter campaigns, a upcoming animated series, and from a developer who decided to kickstart another game, Red Rust, before Mighty No. 9 was even finished.

On one hand, I’m tempted to mock Comcept for their hubris and feel smug about the fact that they’re failing so badly, but on the other… I mean, Mighty No. 9 might not be in a great spot, but it only got this far because real fans of Keiji and his creations came together to support his decision to become an independent designer. Yeah, it’s kind of satisfying to see Keiji put into place after his ego got away from him, but the real ‘victims’ here (and I use the term loosely, let’s keep things in perspective) are the people who believed in him.

Besides, after what happened with Batman: Arkham Knight, I’d sooner see a delayed game than a buggy one. Props to Comcept for being responsible in THAT regard, if nothing else.

Here’s hoping this proves to be a valuable lesson for Comcept as it moves into the future.
