If you've ever owned a Nintendo handheld, there were always 2 strategy games that have stood head and shoulders above the rest- Fire Emblem and Advance Wars. Intelligent Systems is looking to create a third strategy title to add to their impressive lineage and the name of the game is Code Name S.T.E.A.M.
Of course this has nothing to do with Valve's service, the title comes from the steampunk setting the developers chose. This also introduces a steam gauge, which will limit the amount of actions your 4 man team can make during one turn. Another big departure is an over-the-shoulder camera view, similar to Sega's popular Valkyria Chronicles. Other details from the press reveal last night include the ability to set your characters into overwatch mode, which anyone who has played X-COM will instantly love, and that there is no permadeath in the game. The developers also went with a very distinct American comic book look to the game, drawing inspiration from Jack Kirby and Bruce Timm.
Code Name S.T.E.A.M. is set to release on the 3DS next year, but Nintendo will be doing a live demo of the title on their twitch.tv page if you'd like to see it in action.
