It’s not often that this industry produces big names. Studios and companies certainly get trumpeted around a lot, but the number of individual developers people know and recognize is a pretty small list, compared to other creative mediums like Film or Books or Music. One such name is Cliff Bleszinski, one of the defining minds behind Jazz Jackrabbit, Unreal Tournament, and Gears of War. His most recent studio, however, was met with a few devastating blows as Boss Key was unable to make Lawbreakers or Radical Heights a success, forcing the studio to shut down and Cliffy B. to take a break from the world of video games.

But, according to Twitter, it’s not a temporary break, as he’s basically said that he’s leaving the world of video games for good.

Basically, he went to Twitter to complain how bad the Lawbreakers situation was (I guess he couldn’t wait for his book to come out), and how he didn’t get paid for two years because he was trying to pay his employees (although one pointed out they weren’t paid everything, you have to admit he did a better job than Telltale).

And then, he said this:

"I get you're sad, but god, this kind s--- is another reason I am NEVER making another game."

And when Gamesindustry.biz followed up, asking if he was serious, he confirmed it with a simple “I’m done.” A little melodramatic but then the whole experience with Boss Keys has probably got him at least a shade peeved.

Obviously, he hasn’t been forthcoming with what his plans might be, if he’s not going back to the games industry. We know he’s working on that book, but beyond that… it’s anyone’s guess. But assuming he’s serious about never coming back, lemme just say we’ll miss you Cliffy B. You did your fans proud.
