Feeling nostalgic? Now's your chance to return to 2004 to play one of the most popular shooters of the generation with everyone else. Online multiplayer has returned to the original Star Wars Battlefront.
Last week, the Steam and GOG versions of the game received an update that restored online multiplayer functionality. Sharing servers, GOG and Steam players can now play against and with each other online.
Star Wars Battlefront (and a number of other games) had lost online multiplayer in 2014 when online matchmaking and middleware company Gamespy shut down. It's not been confirmed who is managing the new online servers, but with the title being owned by EA, it probably received enough resources to make it happen.
This update comes not long after developers DICE announced that they would be ending support for the most recent game, Star Wars Battlefront II. Released in 2018, the game was largely criticized for its excessive degree of microtransaction encouragement, a feature that was eventually removed from the game (for a while).
Star Wars Battlefront Classic is available on Steam and GOG for $9.99. At the time of writing, it's on sale for 50 percent off.
