Fortunately, we won’t be wanting for those important features for long, as the next free update to the game has just been announced. According to the Civilization blog:
“Multiplayer teams and mod tools have been two of the community’s most-requested features, and we’re happy to bring them to Civilization VI. Steam Workshop will allow you to browse, add, and subscribe to mods more easily, and the other tools will make it easier for artists and modders to express their creativity within the game. With the update to multiplayer you will be able to team up with your friends to conquer the world together against AI or human opponents.”
The update will also include balance changes and some much-needed bugfixes. While no specific date for this update has been released, Firaxis says it will be coming “soon”. But coming today is a new trailer for the game’s next premium update, which will add Australia to the game.
Australia enjoys a unique unit, the Digger, which has an advantage fighting along the coast or in foreign lands. Outback stations, their unique tile upgrade, produces a whole lot of food, and even more if it’s next to animals. And coastal cities enjoy extra bonuses.
Looks pretty exciting, all things said, and always good to see free updates. Plus, with the release of mods… well, there will be a lot more “free updates” in the coming weeks and months, I feel.
