Chinese Teen Stabs Father over Video Game

There are studies that are currently looking for any ties between violence and video games. Some cases are clear cut, some aren't. In this instance, the verdict is still out, but it seems pretty obvious to me. According to Scallywag & Vagabond, a teenage boy stabbed his father at an internet café in Loudi - south Chinas Hunan province.

Reportedly the boy's grades had been slipping as he vested more time into games. He was skipping school and not doing homework, which led to lower academic performances. One day his father took notice he skipped out on his studies again to meet up with some friends. His mother says "When my husband spotted that he had once again skipped his studies to go with his friends and play video games, my husband Lu had gone to get the boy."

In a drastic turn of events, upon the arrival of Lu - the father - the boy began to argue with him. Suddenly he pulled out a knife and stabbed his father outside of the establishment. The 14-year old was later found at another internet café. The police stated the "boy was being kept in a psychiatric institute while tests were being carried out... Experts are checking the video game content and the boy has been interviewed."

While the mother blames "video games," it would seem apparent the issues are rooted a bit deeper. No matter how you may "shake a stick" at this one, there are no positives to be taken from this situation. One can only hope as we research such travesties, we find solutions and aren't just pointing fingers.
