Chinese Players Will Soon Be Able to Purchase Overwatch In-Game Currency

You're in luck if you're Chinese. Otherwise, you're not.

Overwatch's 1.12 PTR Update is bringing a lot of major changes to the game. Overall, the most impactful changes are being made to Roadhog, Mccree, and Reaper, but in China, players will soon be able to purchase in-game currency with real world money. Currently, Overwatch players can purchase loot boxes with real-world money, but there's no way to specifically pay for the items you want. No matter how much you pay, your chances for loot is still completely random.

Chinese players will soon be in luck because update 1.12 will change the way microtransactions work. You'll still have to buy loot boxes, but along with your purchase, you'll receive a specific amount of credits comparable to a number of loot boxes you're buying. Here's an example:
  • 5 credits + 2 loot boxes
  • 15 credits + 5 loot boxes
  • 30 credits + 11 loot boxes
  • 60 credits + 24 loot boxes
  • 120 credits + 50 loot boxes
This update is coming to Chinese players only because of the country's recent introduction of new mandates that control gambling in video games.
